My family lived in Elko Nevada for two and 1/2 years. There are so many places to explore in this wonderful little valley. Lamoille Canyon is one of them and offers recreation year round. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery in the spring with all the waterfalls and the changing of the leaves in Fall to the amazing snowmobiling in the winter.
After leaving Elko to journey to Juneau Alaska and then back to our home state of Montana, Josh and I took a road trip to Elko to visit friends. We had to take a drive up the canyon for old times sake.
This national Scenic Byway serves as the gateway to the Lamoille Canyon Scenic Area and Ruby Mountain wilderness. Sometimes referred to as the "Yosemite of Nevada," the canyon was heavily carved by glacial activity. A four-stop self guided auto tour with geology interpretive exhibits leads visitors past meadows full of wildflowers, abundant wildlife, waterfalls, and avalanche chutes.
